How to build employee engagement?
In a fast-paced reality, it’s important to know what matters to your employees by looking at how employees are evaluating different aspects of your business and by measuring their engagement.
Employee engagement is extremely important to have your business run smoothly, as this translates into increased efficiency, quality of work, sales performance, quality of customer service and greater innovation, which influences business performance and company profit. Employees that are involved are less likely to change their employer and have a lower level of absenteeism.
The study found that employee engagement was a better factor in influencing productivity than job satisfaction. The saying goes ’employees who are involved are happy, but not all happy employees are involved’.
Workers are involved when three conditions are met in their working environment:
- They feel that their work makes sense and contribute to the success of the company;
- They feel appreciated, trusted and respected;
- They feel safe and confident.
Properly interpreted results enable methods to tackle what does not go right in your company.
As an employer, do you know how to measure the engagement of your employees?
There are a number of methods to study employee involvement that we can propose.
Do you also know how to check how important employee development needs are met?
In a fast-paced reality, keep an eye on the pulse to know what is important to your employees, i.e. by each time conducting a study identifying the factors influencing engagement.
The results from the survey of employees’ opinions and focus groups will help your company in creating a strategy to build employee engagement if your company does not yet have it or raise your current strategy to the next level.
The process of examining the involvement of workers’ opinions and making changes based on the staffresults, is usually composed of the following steps:
- Prepare a study to identify key factors in the company’s involvement.
- To carry out the survey by means of questionnaires and to conduct staff focus groups to gather in-depth information.
- Presentation of the analysed data through reports with the identification of areas, problems that could affect employee involvement at a lesser level, together with recommendations for actions to improve this engagement and communication of these results to employees.
- Support in selecting and implementing the action plan and monitoring their implementation.
The effects of the implementation of actions to increase the employee involvement can, according to a study, be enhanced by training managers in building effective employee involvement.
Employee involvement can be achieved by various activities undertaken by the company on the basis of information obtained from employees in a survey. They can include corporate values, streamline processes, relationships, build new solutions, and implement employee-reported improvement ideas. By responding to the ‘voice of employees’, we influence their identification with the company’s goals, we better use the potential of employees to achieve the best results within the company.
According to the Harvard Business review:
“… such a holistic approach to engagement will result in a more detailed understanding of what keeps people in a given place and makes them truly perform their work. Instead of describing the commitment as weak, medium, or large, organizations will be able to understand how employees perceive them, how their assessment affects their behavior, and how those factors affect the company’s overall financial performance. If organizations do not try to deepen their knowledge of their employees, they will not only know their motives, but also lose all the benefits of a high commitment.”
“It is essential to build employee involvement with a comprehensive approach, internal coherence and discipline in the implementation of planned activities. The provision of these three elements is the greatest value that the external counsellor brings.”
We encourage you to take part in the study.
